New Product: Glass Purifiers and Traps Greyhound Chromatography

The ZPure Dual Purifier is a compact filter designed for GC/MS carrier gas lines.  It will protect the column's stationary phase from oxygen and water degradation, for improved sensitivity.  It is also recommended for other point-of-use applications that require ultra-pure inert gas.  Oxygen and water are removed to very low levels from He, Ar, N2 H2 or methane, at flow rates up to 2 L/min.  Gas lines are protected from dust by 10µ frits at both ends of the filter.  Advanced adsorbent technology allows high removal capacities for both oxygen and for water in a compact design.

Mass-labelled Telomer Alcohols : New Product available from Greyhound Chromatography

Mass-labelled Telomer Alcohols

Telomer alcohols have been utilised as versatile precursors to a multitude of polyfluorinated compounds. In fact, they are reported as the major raw materials for surfactant and surface protection products and are most commonly used in the production of esters of acrylic, methacrylic and phoshoric acids. As such, their presence in environmental samples can arise from the leaching of unreacted alcohols residually present in finished products or the degradation of these finished products in the environment or in the laboratory. The incorporation of strong acids or bases during trhe development of matrix specific extraction methods may lead to elevated levels of telomer alcohols in some samples if phosphate or carboxylic ester bonds present in a telomer alcohol derivative are being hydrolysed.

In order to aid researchers in the analysis of these compounds, Wellington Laboratories has synthesised two additional mass-labelled telomer alcohols, M2FHET and M2FOET, to complement the existing range of reference standards.

New Brominated Flame Retardant Tris (2,3-dibromopropyl) isocyanurate from Wellington Laboratories

The treatment of household products and textiles with halogenated flame retardnats has been carried out for many decades. The reduced flammability of these modified materials is a desirable attribute, however the effects of these additives on ecosystems and human health have not been established. Many of these compounds are not chemically bound to the matrix to which they are applied so their migration into the surrounding environment is likely. Unfortunately, the properties that make these compounds good candidates for flame retardancy apllications also make them persistent in the environment.

Tris (2,3-dibromopropyl) isocyanuate (T23BPIC) is a heterocyclic brominated flame retardant that is resistant to photodegradation and is thermally stable. It has been used to treat a wide variety of industrial polymers including polyurethane for agricultural use, polyvinyl chloride, polyesters, synthetic rubber, and many others. It has been shown to absorb strongly to organic material and has characteristics that may promote bioaccumulation in certain species. To ais laboratories in the detection of this compound in the environment and in biota, Wellington Laboratories has prepared a reference standard of T23BPIC.
