Residual explosives are an environmental pollutant as a result of military activity. They can be found in the soil and water at manitions sites. Traditionally these reference materials have been used for monitoring or remediation of such sites. The most common explosives found in soil are:

TNT (2, 4, 6 - trinitrotoluene)

RDX (1, 3, 5 - trinitro - 1, 3, 5 - triazinane)

HMX (1, 3, 5, 7 - tetranitro - 1, 3, 5, 7 - tetrazocane)

Chem Service has these and other explosive standards for EPA methods 529 and 8330. These methods test for explosives and related compounds in finished drinking water and soil.
