Water determination in nitrogen bases by Honeywell
HYDRANAL™ Laboratory Report L 288
Compounds containing nitrogen are commonly occurring and are very important in organic chemistry. Many active pharmaceutical ingredients possess nitrogen in their chemical structure. Different types of amines are often ingredients of drugs.
Procedures listed in the existing literature about water determination in nitrogen bases are rather vague. Therefore we tried to make more precise statements and develop more exact titration methods.
We examined over 100 separate amines using the 3 common titration techniques:
- volumetric titration with one-component reagents
- volumetric titration with two-component reagents
- coulometric determination
We followed our special procedure for each technique and measured: time for titration, end-point stability, and recovery rate of added water (in the presence of the sample being investigated).
Tested titration media were acidified by additions of benzoic acid, salicylic acid or sulfite buffer. In some cases ready to use solution, Hydranal-Buffer Base, was used.
AEROSPACE
More fuel-efficient aircraft. More direct and on-time flights. Safer skies and airports. We're found on virtually every commercial, defense and space aircraft.
BUILDING TECHNOLOGIES
Over 100 years ago, we defined energy efficiency by making indoor comfort automatic. Today, we redefine it in 10 million buildings using our technology.
PERFORMANCE MATERIALS & TECHNOLOGIES
We pioneered automation control. So we understand complex industrial facilities, and how to create high-quality and high-performance chemicals and materials
SAFETY & PRODUCTIVITY SOLUTIONS
Each year, we keep over half a billion workers safer and more productive with voice-enabled software, barcode scanners, mobile computers and protective equipment.
