Xylylcarb (CAS# 2425-10-7)
Chem Service Certified Reference Standards
Xylylcarb is a carbamate pesticide that is derived from carbamic acid. Carbamate pesticides work similarly to organophosphate insecticides by inhibiting the actions of cholinesterase enzymes, which are essential to proper nerve function in insects. As a class of pesticides, carbamates have been used in homes, gardens and agriculture since 1956. Some of them are easily located among different parts of the plants upon which they are applied, making them a good method of systemic pest control.
Xylylcarb is used for the control of hoppers and other sucking insects on rice including leafhoppers, planthoppers, and scale insects on fruit
Once in the body, Xylylcarb is hydrolysed by enzymes in the liver, and the by products are excreted by both the liver and the kidneys. Acute poisoning of humans with carbamates such as Xylylcarb include sever nausea, vominting, low blood pressure, bradycardia, collapse and convulsion. Chronic poisoning that occurs over the course of a decade can have negative effects on the neurological system, such as disturbances in perception and visual-motor processing.
Compared to organophosphate pesticides, Xylylcarb and other carbamates are more rapidly metabolised, potentially making them less toxic. However, Xylylcarb is very poisonous to bees, wasps and other members of Hymenoptera, so caution must be exercised to prevent deaths of these pollinators.
Xylylcarb has the chemical formula C10H13NO2. Its international chemical identifier is InChl=1S/C10H13NO2/c1-7-4-5-9(6-8(7)2)13-10(12)11-3/h4-6H, 1-3H3, (H,11,12).
